Portrait of a Man

Anthonis Mor van Dashorst
1561

559 - zaal 7

Anthonis Mor van Dashorst came from Utrecht and specialised in portraits. He received commissions from various members of the Habsburg court, for which he travelled extensively in Europe. We do not know the identity of the man in the portrait, but he will have been of high birth. His prosperity is confirmed by the gold clothes and chains he is wearing.

This is the oldest painting in the Mauritshuis collection that is painted on linen.
