Interior of an Imaginary Catholic Church

De Witte painted several atmospheric church interiors, all of which are imaginary. Here, he shows a Gothic church, with tall, narrow pointed arches. The light is shining on some figures in the foreground, while the rest of the church is shrouded in darkness.
