Playing Putti
Martinus Josephus Geeraerts
c.c.1740 - 1760
This scene of five playing putti is mounted above the door in the panelling, where a painting like this originally belonged. The over-door panel is a grisaille; a scene painted only in shades of grey to give the impression of being a marble relief. The Antwerp painter Geeraerts specialised in this type of marble imitation.
