Le Jeune Rembrandt
Highlights
Rembrandt is the most important
painter of the Dutch 17th century. He started out in his home town of Leiden,
but quickly moved to Amsterdam, the fast-growing metropolis. There he painted
stories and portraits that are full of action and have a sharp contrast of
light and shade. Here Rembrandt’s paintings hang side-by-side with those of his
predecessors (the Utrecht Caravaggisti) and pupils (Gerrit Dou).
